Hilltop Haven Farm is a small farm specializing in edible pod peas and Saskatoon berries. The farm was officially started by Travis and Sasha Greenwalt in 2009 but the history of the land and agriculture in their families go goes back much further. Travis comes from a family that has dry land farmed wheat, and also grown vegetables in Eastern Washington for over 100 years. The land being farmed as part of Hilltop Haven has been in Sasha’s family for over 40 years. It is located on the outskirts of Missoula, north of the airport. For the 2010 season we are growing three varieties of pod peas that are sold through WMGC. These varieties include sugar snap peas, snow peas, and English pod peas. Hilltop Haven also has approximately one acre of Saskatoon berries (Martin, and Northline varieties) that were planted in the spring of 2009. The small initial year harvest of berries was sold to a wine maker last year. More plantings of Saskatoon berries are planned for the spring of 2010. Travis and Sasha are also involved in a new venture of oilseed processing of camelina and flax with family members that are growing these crops on the Greenwalt Family farm.
