Lowdown Farm is a small family farm owned by Kristi Johnson and Jay Perret. We are located in the Moiese Valley on the Flathead Indian Reservation, about 50 miles north of Missoula. Lowdown Farm has been in business for the past three years selling mixed vegetables, cut flowers, small fruit, and alfalfa hay. Most of our produce is sold through the Western Montana Grower’s Cooperative, although we also sell directly to the Good Food Store and at area farmer’s markets. Lowdown Farm has been certified Homegrown since its inception and is also in the process of transitioning to Organic. We intend to retain both certifications.
As a relatively new farm, we are still learning what crops work best for our climate, soil, and markets. We are also working hard at developing a successful fertility plan that incorporates crop rotation, cover crops, green manure, and animals. Our vision, a work in progress, is to provide healthy food for our region while also taking good care of this small piece of land we call home.
