About Us
Sophie's Farm is located in the Jocko Valley. Kathee Dunham and David Good, along with their son Mason raise certified organic apples, vegetables, flowers and hay. Their twelve varieties of apples are available from late summer until December each year. By offering their food through the Western Montana Growers Cooperative, local buyers can enjoy flavorful fresh apples that have been picked within days of harvest. Sophie’s Farm believes in farming organically and believes it promotes healthier food and a healthier environment.
In 2006, WMGC began working with the Missoula County Public School system to supply local fruits and vegetables. Sophie’s Farm was a perfect fit for the collaboration, as they have the ability to grade their apples and provide smaller, kid-sized apples for the children in Missoula. It was a great partnership, both to offer fresh, organic and local fruit to Missoula schoolchildren, and to find a market for the smaller apples at the farm. WMGC and Sophie’s hopes to continue supplying public schools into the future.
Their apples and flowers can also be found at the downtown Missoula farmers market and at the farm where they welcome visitors. Kathee also raises sheep for wool and offers classes on spinning and natural dyeing using plants raised on the farm. They also offer Christmas wreaths in December, hand-made by David.
